IPL 2022: CSK v KKR in season opener

  • CSK and KKR will feature in the season opener of IPL 2022
  • Both the teams will step on the field with new captains
  • The two franchises have gone head to head 26 times with CSK winning 17 times

One of the most anticipated cricketing leagues, the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) is all set to be staged from today in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. the first match of the tournament will see two red-hot rivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the defending champions, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clash. After the two seasons were disrupted by Corona and were partially played in UAE, the BCCI has decided that the 2022 version will be entirely played in the country amongst the reduced crowd.

The last time these two teams met was in the finals of the fourteenth edition. Dhoni’s team won by 27 runs and claimed the IPL title for the fourth time. Speaking of captain, in this season both teams will be taking the ground with new captains. Two days ago the CSK management announced the stepping down of Dhoni in a post and declared Ravindra Jadeja as the new leader in the same post. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer will be commanding KKR. He took the leadership from England skipper Eoin Morgan.

A look at their face-to-face in IPL history is concerned, the men in yellow have clearly dominated the Knight Riders. The two teams have faced each other 26 times with the Kings winning more than twice the number as Riders i-e out of 26, CSK has won 17 games and KKR just 8 with one match that did not have any result.

It is pertinent to mention that this year’s IPL matches will be played between ten teams which have been divided into two groups. The league stage matches will be played in the state of Maharashtra, in Pune and Mumbai cities.
