- Suresh Raina has been included in the commentary panel of Sky Sports
- He along with others will be doing Hindi commentary
- The batter went unpicked this season
Suresh Raina, a brilliant Indian batter and the highest-run scorer for his franchise the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has been handed the commentating duty for IPL 2022. The fans who are used to seeing him on the pitch will now hear him in the commentary box.
In February, a major chunk of cricket followers was left shocked when Raina never got to be picked by any franchise in the mega auction. The 35-year-old has been an important part of CSK since 2008 and hasn’t represented any other franchise. His performance dipped in the last season where he could barely manage 160 runs for the team yellow.
But the middle order batter isn’t going anywhere because, on Tuesday, Sky Sports announced the inclusion of Suresh along with Akash Chopra, Irfan Pathan and Ravi Shastri along with others. They will all be part of the Hindi commentary panel. In a press conference arranged by Sky Sports, the left-hand batter expressed his happiness on inclusion in the panel
“Very very happy and looking forward to this new role,”
Raina is one of the most decorated players of the yellow army and shared a strong bond with skipper Dhoni. The UP born has accumulated a massive 5528 runs for CSK and there was an uproar when he did not make it to the squad. The franchise has won four titles so far. An interesting fact to note here is that Raina and Dhoni both retired on the same day and it was not intentional.
This year’s IPL will commence from 26th March with defending champions Chennai taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in Wankhede stadium Mumbai.
