IPL 2022: CSK has a message for Faf Du Plessis

  • Faf Du Plessis was named the name captain of RCB
  • Former franchise, CSK called him ‘Fafulous’ and sent all their love
  • It’s the first time the South African will be leading any team in IPL.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Faf Du Plessis’s former franchise, has wished him well for his new journey. Yesterday the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) announced the South African,  as their captain for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 after much speculation. Gossips were doing rounds on social media about the chances of him landing in the captaincy spot for days, while Dinesh Karthik and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell were also in the line of contenders.

Despite a brilliant performance from the all-rounder, in his days in the yellow jersey, the all-rounder wasn’t retained by the Super Kings on November 20th, 2021. When the mega auction took place in February, not one but three franchises including CSK, RCB and Delhi Capitals (DC), but the Bengalorefranchise successfully outbid others to rope in Plessis for INR 7 crore. 

The men in yellow wished their former star player in style and called him ‘Fafulous’ sending all their love for his new journey. The defending champions arranged for a projector to display a video message by Virat screened for a few and with a picture of the whole arrangement, the CSK captained their wishes.

The South African ex-captain was the second-highest run-scorer for Dhoni’s team with 633 runs in 16 matches. This would be his first time leading any team in IPL. The right-hand batter has also represented Pune Super Giants in IPL 2016 and 2017 and RCB will be his third franchise representation in this year’s edition of the tournament. The three-time finalists will face Punjab Kings in their campaign opener on 27th March.
