Inzamam-ul-haq and Wasim Akram have some words for the PCB Chairman

  • Rawalpindi and Karachi pitches have been under extreme criticism from the start
  • Inzamam has urged Ramiz Raja to train the groundsmen and curators properly
  • Wasim Akram has subtly asked the chairman to stay away from the curation of pitches and let the experts do it

The Test pitches curated for the series against Australia have been under massive critique ever since the matches began in early March. First Rawalpindi and now Karachi’s 22 yards have been brought under scrutiny from the cricket fraternity including current and former players. Slow, dead pitches evaporated the chances of a result in the first Test while the ongoing second one has also seen a very slow pitch which has already caused Australia to pile up 550 runs.

Pakistan cricket veteran and former Coach Inzamam-ul-haq has stressed that the pitch curators and groundsmen need to be properly educated on the art of making the cricket yard. While talking on a Youtube channel, the batter said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja should arrange for training the staff and send them abroad for better learning.

“I request Ramiz bhai that, when you are bringing in drop-in pitches and doing other things, please work on the groundsmen and pitch curators as well. Also, the players who are interested in pitches should be sent abroad for courses in this regard so that we can prepare good surfaces,”

Praising the Pakistan pace attack, Inzamam also said that it is really discouraging to prepare pitches that don’t let the national bowlers use their talent to the  fullest

“Pakistan’s bowlers are good and have won matches for their side which is why it is unfair to treat them like this. Please make good pitches which ensure a result in the match while also entertaining the spectators.”

On the other hand former Pakistan bowler, Wasim Akram has subtly asked the PCB chairman not to interfere in pitch curation and let the captain decide, the Australians have already compiled many runs

“In our days’ chairman of the PCB never used to interfere in the preparation of the wicket. I tried to watch the game, and after two balls being a bowler, I knew that this match is going towards a draw. The Australian team have scored 500 runs at the end of Day two with the loss of seven wickets and haven’t declared yet, they might declare soon, but what kind of match is going on.”

Currently, the second match is underway in Karachi and team Australia has decided to bat after the entire Pakistan group got out on 148.
