The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is over the horizon and will kick start from June 1st. The USA and the West Indies will co host the extravaganza, which is going to be the biggest of its kind.
Unlike the last edition which included 16 teams, the T20 World Cup 2024 will feature 20 teams and a total of 55 matches. These 20 teams include two automatic qualifiers as hosts West Indies and USA effortlessly make it to the team pool.
Moreover, the top eight teams from the last edition of the T20 World Cup are also added to the teams’ line-up. They include India, Pakistan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, and England.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh joined the party based on their ICC rankings as of 14th November 2022. They were the next best in rankings excluding the hosts’ rankings hence, earned qualifications.
The remaining eight slots were filled by the regional qualifiers. Scotland and Ireland entered the teams’ pool from Europe qualifier in July 2023. Both earned the place to complete the quota of two from their region for World Cup qualification.
In the East Asia Pacific region, the quota set by ICC was for a single team. Papua New Guinea were lucky to win the spot. Likewise for Americas. From the Americas qualifier, Canada earned the World Cup 2024 spot in October 2023.
Nepal and Oman filled in two slots from the Asia qualifier whereas, Namibia and Uganda were the last two to seal the deal in November 2023 from Africa qualifiers.
