Cricket Australia keen to host tri-nation series with India and Pakistan

The CEO of Cricket Australia (CA), Nick Hockley has stated that the board is in agreement with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) to host a tri-nation series between India, Pakistan, and Australia. Hockley’s main initiative is to pull the arch-rivals on one forum of battle since they have not faced each other in any bilateral series since 2012.

CA planning a tri-nation series between Pakistan, Australia, and India

India and Pakistan now only see each other in the events organized by International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Asian Cricket Council (ICC). Their last meeting was the T20 World Cup 2021 when the men in green thrashed away the men in blue for the first time in World Cup history, that too by 10 wickets. Before that, the rivals met in the ODI World Cup 2019 and Asia Cup 2018.

While talking in a press conference post-Rawapindi Test match, Hockley added he personally favours the idea since it has worked well in past. Moreover, he stated the big Indian and Pakistani communities are living in Australia, so, he would love to see the two nations playing cricket together which not has happened over the years. Visibly, the craze for Pak vs Ind cricket matches is always at its peak among the fans. CA has further offered that Australia is open to hosting the tri-nation series they have been planning with PCB and BCCI.

As quoted by Times of India, Hockley commented,

“Personally, I really like the tri-nation series concept. It’s worked well in the past. We’d be open to hosting matches. There are really big communities of India and Pakistan living in Australia. It’s a contest that everyone wants to see in world cricket and if we can help support further opportunities, we would love to do that,”

However, according to ICC Future Tour Programs (FTP), any such series has no chance at least till 2023. With no scheduled match between India and Pakistan, the tri-nation series with Australia can only happen anytime after 2023.
