Complaint Filed Against Rizwan for Praying Namaz and Supporting Gaza

  • An advocate of the Supreme Court of India by the name of Vineet Jindal has filed a complaint against Rizwan for praying namaz in the stadium and supporting Gaza.

A Supreme Court advocate from India, Vineet Jindal, has filed a complaint with the ICC against Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan for praying on the field during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023.

This is the second complaint against Rizwan in the ongoing tournament. Jindal argues that Rizwan’s act of offering namaz on the cricket field is symbolic and intentional, potentially conveying his religious stance amidst Indian spectators.

Copy of a complaint filed against Mohammad Rizwan for praying Namaz during a cricket match:

The complaint alleges that Rizwan’s act raises concerns about the spirit of the game, suggesting a deliberate representation of his Muslim faith, which, according to Jindal, contradicts the essence of sportsmanship. The lawyer contends that Rizwan’s actions during the match, coupled with his dedication of his century to the people of Gaza on social media, highlight his religious and political ideology.

Rizwan wrote on Twitter in support of Gaza, dedicating his win against SL to the people in Gaza:

Jindal references a previous incident in 2021 when Rizwan prayed on the ground after Pakistan defeated India in the ICC T20 World Cup. Former Pakistani bowler Waqar Younis praised the act, emphasizing that Rizwan stood in the middle of the ground and prayed in front of Hindus, turning the cricket match into a platform to showcase his faith.

Vineet Jindal, who previously filed a complaint against Pakistan presenter Zainab Abbas for alleged “anti-Hindu” statements, has urged the ICC to take strict action against Rizwan. It’s worth noting that Zainab Abbas left India, where she was presenting for the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, citing “personal reasons” after Jindal’s complaint.

This development adds an unexpected layer of controversy to the ongoing cricket tournament as legal actions and complaints based on religious sentiments continue to intertwine with the sporting events. The ICC now faces the task of addressing the complaint while navigating the delicate balance between sportsmanship, freedom of expression, and the potential socio-political implications of individual players’ actions on the field.
