Winning the Pakistan vs Netherlands three-match ODI series on a successful note of 3-0 has polished men in green’s chances to qualify for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. However, Babar Azam and co faced tough times whilst facing Scott Edwards-led Netherlands but managed to whitewash them.
With 120 points and 12 triumphs, Pakistan are ranked third on the points table. First-ranked England are separated by the second and third-placed Bangladesh and Pakistan respectively by five points as both have 120 points. Their places vary, following a minor gap in their net run rates.
It must be noted that the top eight teams on the ICC World Cup Super League points table will qualify for the main event, scheduled to take place in India in 2023. Where all teams are struggling to maintain good positions, West Indies’ chances to do so are trembling since they are seventh on the table, needing to win the rest of the forthcoming games.
The ODI World Cup 2023 will compose of ten teams and is likely to be scheduled for October-November. This is the first time India will host the ODI format world event entirely. Earlier, they have been joint hosts, with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh being the co-hosts on three occasions.
The tournament was scheduled to take place earlier in the year but was delayed to October-November following the disruptions in Qualifiers matches. Since the COVID-19 outspread around the world, the Qualifiers matches of the World Cup 2023 have widely been affected by postponing the tournament.
Although the decision on venues is yet to be made, the treasurer of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) narrated that the fans will experience world-class facilities across multiple stadiums.
