Earlier, the Super Giants had approached Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to replace Wood with Taskin Ahmed. Initially, a source close to BCB disclosed that the bowler will be released but later the board refused to give him clearance. It is pertinent to mention that the Bangladesh team is currently in South Africa for a series of three ODIs and two Tests and Taskin is part of both white and red ball squids. Had the board allowed, the Bangladesh bowler would have to leave the Tests.
BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yousaf was heard saying, “Since we have two important series like the ongoing home tour of South Africa and the home series against Sri Lanka, we feel it won’t be right for him to take part in the IPL. We have spoken with Taskin and he has understood the whole situation. He informed the franchise that he is not playing the IPL and will be available for the South Africa tour and later will return back home,”
The marquee event will start from 26th March and in the first match, the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Whereas, the LSG will play their first match against Gujrat Titans on 28th March.
