The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and Netherlands is set to begin tomorrow, August 16th, and the Pakistani fans are excited to witness a cricket-packed schedule for the next many months. However, just ahead of the first ODI, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released a saddening statement.
The injured bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi, is to miss the first two games of the Pak vs NED ODI series rooting to his knee injury. The key pacer of the team suffered an injury during last month’s Test match against Sri Lanka and has not fully recovered yet.
During the press conference before heading to the Netherlands, the skipper Babar Azam already hinted that Shaheen might miss at least one of the Pak vs NED ODI. He was hopeful that he would make it to the Asia Cup 2022 since he is gradually healing.
It must be noted the PCB is carrying along the medical team to take care of Shaheen, and he will be back in action anytime soon. It is likely that he will feature in the final Test of the series.
According to Babar’s recent statements from the Netherlands,
“We will not become complacent here, and the players are ready to express themselves on the ground. In the absence of Shaheen Shah Afridi, this is an opportunity for youngsters to come forward and showcase their skills,
“We are looking forward to a good contest between bat and ball, and I am hopeful the fans will turn up in numbers to witness the series.”
It must be noted the three Tests are scheduled for August 16th, 18th, and 21st, respectively.
