Cricket South Africa (CSA) has disclosed its Test squad for the home series versus Bangladesh and there are no surprises. As expected, the key players have been missed out to feature in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2022).
The reports earlier suggested that main frontline pacers are likely to miss the two-match red-ball series. Exactly, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi have not been named in the Test squad versus Bangladesh. Apart from them, Aiden Markram and Rassie van der Dussen are not the squad’s part.
It must be noted the IPL and the CSA are in a contract that the board will release its players, free to choose between national duties or the league. As a consequence, with the issuance of NCOC, the Proteas cricketers have opted for the IPL 2022, rather than prioritizing their national duties.
According to the contract, the CSA should not schedule its international fixtures during the IPL tenure, but since SA vs Ban Tests have collided with the schedule of the cash-rich league, the board had no option but not to name the key players in the squad.
Here is the South Africa Test squad for the Bangladesh series
Dean Elgar (C), Temba Bavuma, Daryn Dupavillon, Sarel Erwee, Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj, Wiaan Mulder, Duanne Olivier, Keegan Petersen, Ryan Rickelton, Lutho Sipamla, Glenton Stuurman, Kyle Verreynne, Lizaad Williams, Khaya Zondo.
It must be noted the two teams will play two red-ball encounters starting from 31st March, whereas, the IPL 2022 begins by 26th March. Currently, the three-match ODI series has begun between them from 18th March and will conclude three days before the league, on 23rd March since players will get read to head towards India.
