  • Pakistan’s recent win against Sri Lanka in a historic run chase adds momentum to their campaign.
  • The upcoming clash against India gains significance, with Amir’s suggestion adding intrigue to Pakistan’s strategy.

As the ICC World Cup 2023 gains momentum, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has suggested a strategic alteration to the Men in Green’s playing XI. Speaking on Haarna Mana Hay, Amir recommended the inclusion of leg-spinner Usama Mir in the team, highlighting the importance of his wicket-taking ability in the middle overs.

Amir, known for his insightful cricketing analyses, refrained from specifying the player who should make way for Mir but stressed the significance of the dynamic bowler’s form and all-round capabilities.

“I will not talk about who should be excluded from the team, but I would try to bring Usama Mir into the team combination. You need wickets in the middle overs, and he is the kind of bowler who is in form and taking wickets. He can bat a bit too,”

Amir remarked in response to a question about potential changes in the team’s strategy.

This recommendation comes on the heels of Pakistan’s remarkable victory against Sri Lanka, where they chased down a target of 345 runs, securing the record for the highest-ever run chase in the history of ODI World Cups. Despite early setbacks in the form of top-order batsmen Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam falling in just 7.1 overs, a game-changing partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and World Cup debutant Abdullah Shafique turned the tide in Pakistan’s favor.

The 176-run collaboration between Rizwan and Shafique paved the way for a dominant resurgence, with Shafique contributing a stellar 113 off 103 balls, complemented by Rizwan’s resilient innings of 131 runs. Rizwan’s performance not only secured Pakistan’s victory but also marked the team’s second-highest individual score in World Cup history.

As Pakistan gears up to face arch-rivals India on October 14 in Ahmedabad, Amir’s recommendation adds an intriguing dimension to the team’s strategy. The Men in Green, buoyed by their recent triumphs, are set to bring their A-game to this highly anticipated encounter, with the potential inclusion of Usama Mir offering a fresh perspective to their bowling lineup.

The clash between Pakistan and India promises to be a spectacle, with the strategic moves off the field adding to the excitement of this marquee event.
