The Indian Premier League for women (Women IPL) is set to be played in 2023 and Australian wicket-keeper Alyssa Healy has stated her excitement about it. She feels the tournament will be a great boost in women’s cricket and will empower India cricket, almost making women in blue unbeatable in the next few years.

In a post-match conference between Australia-W and West Indies-W, Healy talked about women IPL terming it the next big step after Women’s Big Bash League. She says WBBL is already the top-rated league, but IPL will be the next after The Hundred.

“I think the announcement for those competitions is pretty great. I mean, it’s exactly where we thought that the women’s game needed to go, that (women’s IPL) was like the next step. I mean, we’ve had a really successful WBBL. Now into the Hundred, there’s sort of some thriving domestic competition, so to see the announcement of the IPL, in particular, to be able to grow the game in India is unbelievable,”

Alyssa further commented the tournament will portray what women are capable to do. She feels Indian Women Cricket Team will be a cricketing giant in a duration of 10 years.

“It’s such an untapped market I feel in the women’s game. With so many people, surely they’re going to be unbeatable in sort of a 10-year time. They just really needed a sort of a leg-up in that domestic setup to I guess, showcase what these amazing women can do. So yeah, it’s really exciting,”

It must be noted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) became the first Asian board to announce the women’s T20 league, Women PSL. The chairman Ramiz Raja disclosed the tournament will be played in the 2022-23 window. However, since the board has announced the Future Programs of Women Cricket Team, no such league is scheduled. It will make BCCI the first Asian board to successfully launch a women’s T20 extravaganza.
