Ahmed Shehzad hoping to play for Pakistan

Pakistani batter Ahmed Shehzad has shown his availability to play for Pakistan once again as the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 looms. Shehzad has not been considered for the national team given his last T20I and ODI matches in October 2019 and 2017, respectively.

On multiple occasions, Shehzad raised his voice against the ‘oppression’ asking to give him a fair opportunity to represent the nation. Shehzad has highlighted his performances once again in the domestic circuit and is hoping that the board will welcome him ahead of the World Cup.

Ahead of the PSL 2024, the opening batter showed his frustration with a tweet as no franchise picked him in the player draft. Despite various achievements, he was left unpicked even in the replacement draft.

“I have been playing domestic cricket consistently for the past two and a half years. My performances for the country are evident to everyone, but my name hasn’t been called up for the national team or the PSL,” he said.

“I have continued to work hard, and my performance has been outstanding in the current season.

“My name was included in the camp based on domestic performance; now I hope to get a chance further ahead.

Recently, all-rounder Imad Wasim has taken his retirement back, thanking new PCB management to give him a chance to don the green jersey again. As the World Cup is around the horizon, Wasim is excited to play under the new captain, Shaheen Afridi.

Opined, this news further gives hope to Shehzad, believing if Imad was given a chance despite retirement, he too could be considered. Shehzad is even ready to bat in the middle order to sort out the team’s woes.

“I am hopeful to get a fair chance since I want to contribute with my performance and experience.

“I have batted up the order and will prefer to that. As far as batting in middle order is concerned, I am willing to do anything for Pakistan but it is important to sit down and talk about the plan,” he added.
