  • Chopra praises Gill’s improved skills, particularly against left-arm spin.

As the cricketing world gears up for the much-anticipated 2023 World Cup on home soil, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has set the stage for excitement by foreseeing a remarkable tournament for the in-form opener, Shubman Gill.

Chopra’s foresight includes a prediction that Gill will make a lasting impact by notching up a minimum of two centuries. Chopra, in a recent video on his YouTube channel, singled out Gill as one of the players to watch during the World Cup. He optimistically stated,

“This tournament could be Shubman Gill’s. In all fairness, the tournament will belong to the top three batters. The good ones will make a lot of records. Shubman Gill will score a lot of runs. I feel he will score at least two hundreds; I won’t be surprised if he hits three as well. One of them could be a daddy hundred if he doesn’t get tired. Gill is a quality player and this World Cup could be his.”

Acknowledging Gill’s growth and adaptability, Chopra also praised the 24-year-old for addressing a perceived vulnerability against left-arm slow bowling. He noted,

“At one point in time, it seemed like he got stuck against left-arm spin. But he showed he can take that on as well during his last hundred in the Asia Cup. It was his best ODI knock, in my opinion.”

Gill’s impressive record in one-day internationals further supports the expectations surrounding him. With 1917 runs in 35 matches at an average of 66.10 and a striking rate of 102.84, including six centuries and nine half-centuries, Gill has proven to be a consistent performer.

As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the commencement of the 2023 World Cup, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Shubman Gill. Aakash Chopra’s bold predictions only add to the excitement, creating an extra layer of anticipation for Gill’s potentially stellar performance in the tournament.
