Another event misplaced due to COVID-19 Pandemic, ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which was to be held in the year 2020, now is rescheduled in October and November to be hosted on the grounds of Australia. This is going to be the 8th edition of the T20 World Cup taking place in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
The teams who reached the Super 12 phase during the T20 World Cup 2021 have already been qualified for the upcoming tournament. But what about the players? Will the same players playing in last year’s game be chosen again this year? Or will there be any changes in the team squads?
Let’s now have a look at the players not playing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022:
1. Rahul Chahar
22-year-old Rahul Chahar was born on August 04, 1999, in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Playing the role of a bowler with a right-arm leg spinner bowling style this Indian cricketer is among those youngsters who won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup. Missing many domestic matches due to his injuries during the year 2018 caused him great distress.
Due to him not being able to give his best or most influential performance in the recent World Cup 2021, it has made the selectors skeptical thinking over his selection as in this mentioned event he couldn’t dispatch proper innings in almost every match except in the game against Australia that India played.
In the mentioned International cricket match he reaped over 14 wickets in 13 games with an economy rate of nearly 7.71 and with an average of 25.71. Not reaching the expectations and continuing with this average performance he is most prosily going to be replaced by Yuzvendra Singh Chahal who currently plays for the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League.
2. Varun Chakravarthy
Varun Chakravarthy Vinod, a present Indian cricketer playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL season as a right-arm leg-break bowler and representing the quality team Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket matches, is famous for his solitary style.
In recent times, during the tournament of the T20 World Cup 2021, it has been recorded that Varun played a total of 3 matches. Not being able to take wickets for India with his sore form in all those 3 matches with supplemental 71 runs leaked in the mentioned game and not only this even in IPL his performance was not up to par.
With an economy of 8.40 in 10 matches, Varun was able to take only 6 wickets which confirms his inadequate performance throughout the year due to which his selection for the T20 World Cup 2022 in team India by the International cricket council is canceled.
3. Dwayne Bravo
Former captain of the West Indies cricket team, Dwayne Bravo born on October 07, 1983, in Santa Cruz, Trinidad. This Trinidadian all-rounder is an expert in the middle order with a batting average of 22.02 in T20 International cricket. Although he had to face many ups and downs in his cricket career he never lost hope in himself.
Mentioning further details Bravo is a skillful batsman with a normal strike rate being 115.03 in the T20s and a seam bowling economy of 8.11 he has served the West Indies a lot in his matches played. It is mostly said that the West Indies cricket team underestimated his skills as an all-rounder batsman.
During the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2021, he couldn’t make the best out of himself and didn’t be of much service to the team. However, when his team was drawn out from the league stage Bravo then decided to take early retirement from International cricket and so is he mentioned in this list of players who are not playing T20 World Cup 2022.
4. Kieron Pollard
Aged 35, Kieron Adrian Pollard was born on May 12, 1987, in Tacarigua, Trinidad. Playing the role of an all-rounder for the West Indies nation and as a former captain, he is known to be one of the best players in the T20 cricket form. He played a total of 101 matches in T20 cricket scoring 1569 runs with a splendid strike rate of 135.14 and an average being almost 25.
In the 2010 IPL auction, Kieron has been one of the most expensive players to buy due to his excellent stats in the short order format. As his T20 World Cup 2021 was not up to scratch and being a captain of the team he couldn’t take his team further beyond the league stage. This led to the disappointment of the team’s management and him certainly.
Further, his underrated performance in the big form tournament like the ODIs and Tests due to his poor form and his disagreement with the West Indies Cricket Board forced him to retire from the International cricket format in 2021. Therefore, this limited-over specialist won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup 2022.
5. Tom Curran
England bowling all-rounder Tom Curran, born on March 12, 1995, in Cape Town made his International debut on June 23, 2017, in a series against West Indies. In T20 International cricket, his bowling stats show that he has played 30 matches taking 29 wickets with an average of 31.27 and an economy rate of 9.25.
Not only this, but this youngster represented his team in all the 3 formats just at the age of 22 years. Not only with the ball with pace length deliveries and variations taking wickets for the men in blue but also with the bat hitting powerfully in the middle order, he has been very efficient for England.
Lately, in the T20 World Cup 2021, his brother Sam Curran was not selected for the team due to a back injury and thus Tom was adjusted into the squad for action but he didn’t meet the expectations for England and didn’t perform well given no jolt due to which he is not selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.

6. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Joseph Mitchell, an all-rounder of the New Zealand cricket team with right-arm medium bowling and right-handed bat, born on May 20, 1991, in Hamilton made his first Test International debut on 29 November 2019 against England team. Whereas, his T20 International cricket debut was against India in February 2019.
Mitchell has also represented Canterbury in domestic cricket and on the other side played for the Rajasthan Royals in the famous Indian Premier League. He is the son of New Zealand’s union coach and a former player John Mitchell who retired long back from International cricket in 2015.
In the semi-final of the men’s T20 world cup against England on November 10, 2021, Daryl Mitchell gave his career-best performance in which he scored 72 runs of just 42 deliveries showing great performance with the bat and was the player of the match. Unfortunately, this IPL season he didn’t perform well and is likely not to be a part of the T20 World Cup 2022.
7. Sarfaraz Ahmed
Wicket-keeper batsman and a former captain of Pakistan National cricket team Sarfaraz Ahmad is famous for his captaincy during the Championship Trophy 2017 which led Pakistan to the final with a superb performance in all aspects granting them an easy victory against India on June 18.
Not only captaining this series but many more, including the U-19 Team in 2006, he has great captaincy skills. Sarfraz was the only Pakistan player to score a 100 in the tournament against South Africa where he slammed away the Man of the Match award also. Being aggressive with the bat as a middle-order batsman and behind the stumps not letting the ball pass away from the glove as a wicket-keeper he has contributed a lot to the Pakistan team with his form.
He had to take a break from cricket due to his poor form but was later called over again in the team in place of Azam Khan when he was excluded from the Pakistani squad. Continuing his unstable form he is not going to be a part of the T20 World Cup 2022.
8. Asghar Afghan
Born on December 26, 1987, in Kabul, Afghanistan, Mohammad Asghar Afghan is a former player of the Afghanistan cricket team and a former captain of the T20 International cricket format. This middle-order batsman played a very crucial role for his team in their first win against Bangladesh in a Test match in March 2014.
In his T20 International career, he has played a total no. of 75 matches and scored 1382 runs with a normal strike rate of 110.82 contributing 4 50s. Asghar is known as one of the best captains that Afghanistan has ever got who helped his time in all formats and difficult scenarios.
In the T20 World Cup 2021, Asghar has played magnificently in every inning of the tournament with the bat handling the middle-order tightly but in the match against Pakistan in the same tournament, Afghanistan lost to Pakistan in his captaincy due to which his cricket career is at stake regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.
9. Mohammad Hafeez
Mohammad Hafeez is a former International cricketer playing for the Pakistan National cricket team as an all-rounder with a right-handed batting style and spin bowling action is known as one of the best all-rounders known in the history of Pakistan representing his nation.
Known as a professor, showing splendid performance whether it be with the bat for scoring runs and keeping the scoreboard in the run, with the ball for blowing out the stumps sending batsman to the pavilion or at the end in the field ground, he has been outrageous in all of them in the past times.
But recently, when he was selected for the T20 World Cup 2021 in the Pakistani squad, he played just 6 matches and could not deliver his best performance scoring just 85 runs from all those played matches. Therefore, he himself decided to end his international career by retiring and so he also will not be playing T20 World Cup 2022.
10. Tymal Mills
No. 10 on the list is Tymal Mills, a left-arm fast bowler, who is currently playing for the England cricket team since 5 July 2016 when he made his first international debut against Sri Lanka at Southampton. Due to many injuries, his career was affected a lot but he with his capabilities, out-classed everyone.
Proving himself again he has played in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2017 season. Adding up he was also a part of all the three T20 games which were played by England against India in which he took 3 wickets with a good economy rate. Another thigh strain injury of Tymal Mills caused him late joining due to which he played the T20 World Cup tournament from the midst.
This time he was a part of the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL but unluckily he was able to gather only 6 wickets in the played matches with a very high economy rate being almost 11.17. This improper form of Mills puts him in a difficult situation of being selected for the T20 World Cup 2022.
