South Africa’s Anrich Nortje who was kept back by Cricket South Africa (CSA) from playing the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injuries has been cleared by the board. The 28-year-old was tending to a ‘serious injury and also a stress fracture that had kept him away from cricket for the last six months.
Chief medical officer of the CSA, Shuaib Manjra, has told ESPNcricinfo that a series of tests have been done on Nortje and have thus cleared him to participate in the IPL stating that he can complete the remaining rehab sessions in India.
“We did a range of Tests on Anrich and ruled out any serious injury. We felt safe enough to have Anrich do his rehab in India and his return to play in India. We have ruled out the stress fracture of the back.”
The South African pacer last participated in international cricket in the T20 World Cup which happened in October-November last year. Following the tournament, the quickie was ruled out of the India and New Zealand tour due to what was considered as a persistent hip surgery initially. Later when he failed to manage the cut in the Bangladesh tour of South Africa, his participation in IPL started to look grimmer.
The right-arm fast bowler was retained by Delhi Capitals this season despite knowing about the lad’s injury. The bowler, however, joined his IPL team early this week after the franchise physician Patrick Farhart himself flew to SA to conduct certain assessment tests on him. Farhart mentioned that he’s confident the fast-bowler will make a quick recovery and at some point in the tournament will make a comeback.
Notable CSA has the right to call the cricketer back if they feel it is absolutely necessary for his fitness in the long run.
