- The BCCI has proposed to conduct women IPL from 2023

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has come up with an idea to launch the women’s version of the Indian Premier League (IPL), comprising of six teams, from next year. The Board has launched the Women T20 Challenge up till now which will take place alongside the men’s IPL.
The introduction of the women’s cricket league has been in the talks for a while now. with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) already thinking of scheduling women PSL and Cricket West Indies (CWI) announcing the dates and venue of women CPL alongside men’s, it was already on the cards that the BCCI will launch a plan for the female cricketers soon since their games are becoming more competitive by the day.
The decision came in a meeting of Governing Council (GC) of the IPL on Friday, where it was decided that six teams will be introduced in the first season of WIPL scheduled for 2023. A chance will be given to all existing franchises to form women’s teams. However, if this doesn’t work then the Board will be calling the stakeholders to buy the franchises.
The Indian women’s cricket team is currently playing the Cricket World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. even though the ladies are very competitive, yet they fail to manage pressure situations, especially in critical games which have often forced them out of the tournament after they had come very near to the final. The English and Australian women on the contrary, who play regular league cricket are far more physically and mentally powerful than their opponents and are the reason why they have won so many World Cup titles. this will provide a chance for Indian women to further hone their skills.
