- Anrich Nortje will be available for selection from early April
- He has been resigned by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2022
- His injury will let him miss first two games
South Africa’s Anrich Nortje is set to miss a few initial games of the Indian Premier League’s upcoming season, IPL 2022. The player was speculated to miss the entire tournament, but luckily, will be available for selection from April 7th and onwards.
Delhi Capitals frontline pacer will not be available for the first two matches but will feature in the third match against Lucknow Super Giants. The fast bowler has been away from international cricket due since 2021 to his injury, the cause of which is still unknown.
Anrich Nortje fit for IPL 2022 from Delhi Capitals’ third match
During the ongoing Bangladesh series, Nortje has not been induced in the squad following Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) contract with IPL. The contract says CSA will release its player during the league’s tenure no matter if any international series is scheduled.
CSA does not usually schedule any international match during the IPL regime but since the league has collided with the Bangladesh series, the board left the decision up to the players. Surprisingly, to what Dean Elgar called the ‘loyalty test’, many players failed picking IPL over their national duties.
Anrich is not the only one, but various players from different nations have come to play IPL for different franchises leaving behind their national duties. Nortje was first bought in by Capitals in 2020 for INR 50 Lakhs. However, his base price has risen to INR 6.5 Crore this season. DC will play their first game against Mumbai Indians on 27th March.
It is pertinent to mention the IPL 2022 will begin from 26th March. The league opener will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Roping two new teams in this season, it will be a ten-team affair with 70 league stage games and three playoffs, including a final finalizing the league on 29th May.
