‘Mankad’ is not for England’s pacer Stuart Broad

  • MCC has made ‘Mankad’ a fair run-out
  • Stuart Broad says ‘Mankad’ was always legal
  • Whether its fair or not is subjective, but for him it’s not
  • To dismiss a batter requires skill and Mankad requires zero

Stuart Broad has claimed he will never use the ‘Mankad’ method to bowl someone out. Yesterday, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the official authority on cricket laws issued several changes in the laws and regulations related to the game and one of them included changing ‘Mankad’ from an unfair play to a fair one.

Mankad is when the bowler rips the bails on the non-striker’s end when the batter at that position crosses the line without waiting for the full delivery to be bowled. Falling under Law 41, it was always considered against the spirit of cricket when it was practiced but won’t be any more as it has now shifted to Law 38.

The statement released by MCC regarding the ruling says, “Law 41.16 – running out the non-striker – has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair Play) to Law 38 (Runout). The wording of the Law remains the same,”

England’s fast bowler was quick to react to this change in rule and took to Twitter to express his feelings. The bowler said that whether it’s right or wrong but running a non-striker out has always been a legal delivery.

The 35-tear-old further added that he would never use this method of run-out because first it’s unfair in his opinion and secondly dismissing a batter requires skill and the Mankad method doesn’t need any.

It is pertinent to mention that Stuart Broad is one of the greatest fast bowlers to play for England. In 152 Tests he has played for his side, the right-arm pacer has victimized 537 batters and is the 6th highest wicket-taker in Tests for England.
