BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) released the IPL 2022 schedule on Sunday, March 6, 2022. The 15 season of the Indian Premier League will begin on March 26 2022 at Wankhede Stadium. In the opening game of IPL 2022, defending champions CSK (Chennai Super Kings) will face KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders).In total, 70 league matches and four playoff games will be performed over 65 days.
Doubleheader matches will be conducted on Day 2, March 27, 2022, at Brabourne Stadium. The first match will be between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indias, while the second match will be between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. On Monday, March 28, the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants will face off in their first match.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural game at the MCA Stadium in Pune on March 29. During the IPL, the Wankhede stadium and the DY Patil Stadium will host 20 cricket matches, whereas the Brabourne stadium and the MCA stadium in Pune will host 15 cricket matches. According to reports, some teams protested to the Mumbai Indians playing at the Wankhede, claiming that no other team would play at their traditional home field.
The league stage would be played at three sites in Mumbai: Brabourne Stadium, Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, and Wankhede Stadium. The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune will host the last 15 matches. BCCI, on the other hand, has evenly split the games among the four grounds for all ten teams.
The Chennai Super Kings will be headed by MS Dhoni, while Shreyas Iyer’s will guide the Kolkata Knight Riders. According to the BCCI statement, “A total number of 70 league matches and 4 Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days. The 15th season will start on March 26 at the Wankhede stadium with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders,”
