Australia to bid Farewell to Shane Warne via State Funeral

The Australian legend and cricketing great, Shane Warne will be honoured by a state funeral as told by the premier of the home state Dan Andrews. The cricket world was shaken to its core on Friday when the news of the spinner suddenly passing away in his villa in Thailand due to a suspected heart attack, broke out.

In a Tweet poster earlier, Victoria’s premier said that Warner’s family has accepted the offer of a state funeral to bid farewell and remember the Melbourne native for his immeasurable achievements for Australian cricket. However, the details of the funeral were not shared and will be made public shortly.

Tributes for the 52-year-old took the internet by storm as friends, colleagues, fellow cricketers and celebrities shared condolences and expressed grief over the early demise of Warne. Former colleague and Pakistan batting coach for the T20I World Cup wrote, “God only made one model of you my friend”

To honour the king of leg-spin, the Great Southern State at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) will be renamed after him. It’s the same place where he took his 700th wicket including a hat-trick. A tweet by Andrews confirmed the decision.

Shane Warne in his career took 708 Test and 293 ODI wickets. He was one of the bowlers, most feared by the opposition’s batters.
