Women’s PSL or Pakistan Super League like competition for Pakistan Women Cricket team has got green signals to be staged from 2023. Tania Malick, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s head for the ladies wing, announced the news officially which was approved by the PCB chairman Mr. Ramiz Raja. The league was expected to kick-start by the end of the calendar year, however, the plan was postponed with no window available.
The PCB, since Raja has taken charge of the chair duties, has been planning Women’s PSL or any PSL equivalent competition for the girls in green. Malick not only announced the happy news but also praised the recent boost-up performances of the ladies under Bismah Maroof. Pakistan Women Cricket team is currently in New Zealand being one of the eight contestants for the World Cup 2022 to begin from 4th March. Maroof and co have won two warm-up matches and will start the main journey versus the arch-rivals India on 6th March.
Tania also appreciated the Southern Punjab Cricket Association’s role in triggering women’s cricket in a nation like Pakistan. On the occasion of women’s day, on 4th March, a match has been organized between Southern Punjab and Sindh. She highlighted further steps are been taken for women empowerment and to gather girls on one forum, polishing their sporting skills, and providing them with a forum to implement their talent.
As quoted by one of the reputed sites, Cricket Pakistan, the women’s head added,
“Since taking office, women’s cricket has been facing difficulties. Efforts are being made to take steps for the promotion of women’s cricket and women to come forward in every field,”
It must be noted that after a few weeks of Ramiz’s appointment as the PCB chairman, he confirmed that women’s cricket, in the upcoming times, will be vast in Pakistan. Alongside announcing a PSL like for Bismah and co, Ramiz also announced launching a competition for U19 lads. The initiative can undoubtedly do wonders for Pakistan to help women’s cricket grow.
Women’s PSL launched – Pakistan Cricket Board achieves a milestone
With the takeoff of the PSL Women, Pakistan will become the first-ever Asian nation to launch the T20 league for women. Many countries, like Australia, are already having top-notch competitions like the Big Bash League (BBL). The women in green can have a chance to experience other leagues in the coming time. Also, the big names from all across the world will be embraced in the land of pacers to participate in PSL Women.
Moreover, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) is also on the verge of pitching IPL like Women competition or Women’s IPL. However, any such decision is yet to be implemented.
As far as men’s PSL is concerned, Pakistan successfully hosted the marquee event entirely within the realms alongside allowing the crowd in stadiums. Multan Sultans, despite being the season’s guru, winded up as the runner ups and PSL 2022 witnessed the newest winners, Lahore Qalandars lifting their maiden trophy.
