Lucknow Super Giants’ fast bowler Mayank Yadav is facing the possibility of missing the remainder of the IPL 2024 season after sustaining an injury during a recent match against the Mumbai Indians. This setback marks the second injury for Yadav in a month, despite his emergence as one of the fastest bowlers in the league.

Despite the potential setback, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to reward Yadav with a pace bowling contract, acknowledging his talent and contributions to the game. Alongside Yadav, other players such as Umran Malik, Vidwath Kaverappa, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Yash Dayal, and Akash Deep are also set to be rewarded for their performances.

Once the contract is awarded, Yadav will be supervised by the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) Sports Science and Medical team, ensuring proper rehabilitation and care for his injury. A recent medical examination revealed a grade 1 tear following Yadav’s last match against the Mumbai Indians. Speaking to PTI on condition of anonymity, a BCCI source stated,

“Mayank has a tear but it is more likely a grade 1 tear. It will be cutting it fine but in case LSG qualifies for the play-offs, he might just be able to play the knock-out games.”

While Yadav’s participation in the remaining IPL games remains doubtful, there is a possibility of him featuring in the knock-out games should Lucknow Super Giants progress to the playoffs. Yadav’s remarkable speed was evident when he clocked 156.7kph, marking the fastest delivery in the ongoing IPL and the fourth fastest in tournament history.

This impressive feat comes after Yadav set the previous record during his debut match for Punjab Kings at 155.8kph, solidifying his status as one of the most exciting pace bowlers in the league.
