The vibrant city of Faisalabad is all set to host the eagerly anticipated National Women’s One-Day Tournament, slated to commence on Wednesday. A significant evolution from previous editions, this year’s tournament promises to be an exhilarating affair, with an expanded lineup and a revamped format.
Traditionally contested by three teams – Blasters, Challengers, and Dynamites – under the Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament umbrella, this season marks a watershed moment as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) introduces six regional sides into the fray. In a laudable move to bolster support and promote women’s cricket, the PCB has expanded the competition to include teams representing Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, and Rawalpindi.
The tournament will adopt a double-league 50-over format, ensuring each participating side engages in a minimum of 10 matches. With a total prize purse of PKR 2.245 million up for grabs, the stakes are undeniably high. The top two teams emerging triumphant after 30 league matches will vie for glory in the final showdown scheduled for 11th May, with the champions earning a coveted PKR one million cash prize.
Jawad Club Cricket Ground, Iqbal Stadium, and Bohranwali Cricket Ground have been designated as the primary venues for this prestigious event, while the Saeed Ajmal Academy Ground stands ready as the reserve venue, ensuring seamless proceedings throughout the tournament.
The anticipation is palpable as the six regional sides gear up to showcase their prowess on the cricketing stage. Omaima Sohail will spearhead the Karachi Region, while Lahore’s hopes rest on the capable leadership of Kaynat Hafeez. Saima Malik will lead the charge for Quetta, with Humna Bilal at the helm for Multan. Gull Rukh and Mahnoor Aftab will don the captain’s armbands for Peshawar and Rawalpindi, respectively, adding to the diversity and depth of talent on display.
As the countdown begins, fans eagerly await the action-packed fixtures slated for Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday’s matchups include Quetta vs. Rawalpindi at the Jawad Cricket Club Ground, Karachi vs. Multan at Iqbal Stadium, and Peshawar vs. Lahore at Bohranwali Cricket Ground.
Friday’s schedule features another thrilling lineup, with Quetta taking on Peshawar at Iqbal Stadium, Lahore facing Karachi at Jawad Club Cricket Ground, and Rawalpindi locking horns with Multan at Bohranwali Cricket Ground. With excitement brewing and expectations soaring, the stage is set for a riveting display of cricketing prowess and sportsmanship at the National Women’s One-Day Tournament.
