The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to recognize Mayank Yadav’s blistering pace by rewarding him for delivering the fastest delivery of IPL 2024. Representing the Lucknow Super Giants, Yadav clocked an impressive 156.7 kilometres per hour against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), breaking his own record from the previous season.
Yadav’s lightning-fast delivery not only marked the fastest of the season but also secured him the fourth-fastest delivery overall in IPL history. Last season, he recorded a speed of 155.8 kilometres per hour, showcasing his consistent ability to bowl at extreme velocities.
The BCCI’s decision to reward Yadav underscores their commitment to nurturing young fast-bowling talents in Indian cricket. In February, the board introduced historic fast bowling contracts, which included promising players like Akash Deep, Vyshak Vijaykumar, Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and Vidwath Kaverappa.
Sources within the BCCI revealed that discussions are underway to potentially include Yadav in the fast bowling contract roster following his impressive performances in IPL 2024.
“Yes, it’s under discussion. The Fast Bowling Contract was created to encourage such young talents. If you see, we have Akash Deep, Umran, and others. Mohsin and Mayank are also part of the discussion. And the selectors will have inputs whether some of the young guys can be added to the contract,” said a BCCI official to Indian media.
Mohsin Khan, another promising fast bowler representing the Lucknow Super Giants, is also in contention for inclusion in the fast bowling contract. The Lucknow Super Giants currently stand fourth on the IPL table, having secured three wins out of five matches, with both Yadav and Khan playing pivotal roles in the team’s success.
As discussions unfold within the BCCI, the recognition and potential contract inclusion for Mayank Yadav serve as a testament to the burgeoning talent pool of fast bowlers emerging in Indian cricket, promising a bright future for the sport in the country.
