The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is going on in full swing. Out of 74, 14 matches have been down and dusted as of Monday. As the league progresses, there is a possibility that the April 17 schedule between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals gets rescheduled.
While there is no official news regarding rescheduling, the reliable reports circulating on the internet indicate that the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has already approached organizers and franchises in regard. On April 17, India will celebrate the Ram Navami festival, hence it is unlikely that any IPL match will take place.
In this festival, the Hindu community celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The festival is celebrated on the ninth day of the first month of the Hindu calendar. Rama is also considered the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu.
Notably, the match between the Riders and the Royals is scheduled at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The vibrant city is often jam-packed, especially during religious festivities. The BCCI, in order to avoid any havoc, has reportedly considered rescheduling the encounter.
“The discussions are on with the police authorities and we will take a decision soon,” a top official working closely with the IPL said.
As for the teams, the KKR currently stand second on the table with two out of two wins and four points. In contrast, the RR are leading the table with three consecutive wins and an NRR of 1.249 and six points.
