The Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) has begun – While it is exciting for many, it is clearly a heartbreak to Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni fans. Captain Cool has led the side since the league’s inception, however, the ongoing season brings the curtains down to his captaincy.
Many were surprised when they saw Ruturaj Gaikwad in the captain photoshoot instead of Dhoni. However, little they knew was that Dhoni had handed over his captaincy to Gaikward.
Notably, in the 2022 season, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was at the helm of CSK’s leadership. In the following season, Dhoni once again took the reins as Jadeja stepped down after eight matches.
As the season 2024 begins, CSK welcome a new captain after 16 years. It remains to be seen how Gaikwad will prove himself as a captain. Under Dhoni, the Yellow Army became one of the most successful IPL franchises.
The title defenders have opened their account against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opener today. While 2023 was the last season for Dhoni as a skipper, the IPL 2024 is expected to be his last as a player.
Dhoni already bid farewell to international cricket in August 2020. For the last few years, it was reported that the upcoming season would be Dhoni’s last, however, the ex-CSK skipper went on to play for his fans.
Since his regime as a CSK skipper comes to an end, it is expected that fans will not see their all-time favorite MS Dhoni in the upcoming IPL seasons.
