Sri Lanka’s fast bowling sensation Dilshan Madushanka will not be available for the first few matches of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). He left the field during the second ODI against Bangladesh due to injury and has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed that Dilshan’s MRI scans reveal a hamstring injury, which will keep him out of action for a few weeks. According to the details, the bowler will fly back to Sri Lanka to begin the rehabilitation process.
It is pertinent to mention that Madushanka was set to represent Mumbai Indians in the impending IPL season. While it is expected that he will only miss a few IPL games before joining the MI squad, SLC says in a statement that,
“It’s a new injury. We’re not yet sure how long it will take for him to recover, but he’ll have to be assessed again when he goes home by the medical team at the high-performance centre. For now we know he’s out of the ODI tomorrow for sure.”
During the second ODI in Chattogram, the fast bowler could only deliver 6.4 overs. He also removed the first two opponents’ wickets.
As far as his IPL stint is concerned, he was one of the new Sri Lankan players acquired by MI. Nuwan Tushara was another name for the island nation. Notably, Madushanka was bought in IPL 2024 auction for a whopping price of INR 4.6 Crore.
Madushanka has featured in 23 ODIs and has 41 wickets to his name. In 14 T20I appearances, he has 14 wickets under his belt. He will be looking to recover as soon as possible to resume his cricket journey in full swing.
