Akeal Hosein’s impressive bowling performance on Friday night added a new chapter to the history of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The Quetta Gladiators spinner etched his name among the select few who have achieved the coveted feat of a hat-trick in the tournament. While his efforts couldn’t save his team from a loss against Peshawar Zalmi, his hat-trick adds another layer of excitement to the ongoing PSL 2024.
Hosein’s hat trick came in the 16th over of Zalmi’s innings. He dismissed Aamer Jamal, Mehran Mumtaz, and Luke Wood in quick succession, showcasing his skilful spin bowling. Although Quetta ultimately fell short, this hat-trick will be remembered as a remarkable highlight of the season.

His victims were the explosive trio of Dwayne Bravo, Zohaib Khan, and Kevon Cooper against Lahore Qalandars.
The following season (2018) witnessed two hat-tricks. Junaid Khan of Multan Sultans became the second player, taking down Yasir Shah, Cameron Delport, and Raza Hasan against Lahore Qalandars. His teammate, the legendary Imran Tahir, followed suit later in the same season, claiming the wickets of Hassan Khan, John Hastings, and Rahat Ali against Quetta Gladiators.
Islamabad United’s Mohammad Sami joined the club in PSL 2019, dismissing Wahab Riaz, Umaid Asif, and Hasan Ali in a match against Peshawar Zalmi. The most recent addition before Hosein was Abbas Afridi of Multan Sultans in PSL 2023. His hat-trick against Quetta Gladiators included the scalps of Mohammad Nawaz, Umaid Asif, and Umar Akmal.

While it wasn’t enough to secure victory for Quetta Gladiators, it serves as a testament to his skill and adds another exciting chapter to the PSL’s history.
