In a significant development for Lahore Qalandars, Rassie van der Dussen bid farewell to the team after Wednesday’s match, marking the end of his tenure with the franchise. Throughout the season, van der Dussen emerged as a lone warrior for Lahore, delivering some massive performances despite the team’s struggles.
His standout moment came when he became the first centurion of the season with an unbeaten 104* against Peshawar Zalmi. Despite his heroic efforts, Lahore endured six consecutive losses, where even van der Dussen’s performances couldn’t salvage victories. Notably, his unbeaten 71* in the opener against Islamabad United also failed to turn the tide for Lahore.
However, on March 6th in Rawalpindi, van der Dussen’s gritty knock of 64 off 44 deliveries played a pivotal role as Lahore posted a competitive total of 162 runs against Islamabad United in their eighth match. Lahore’s bowlers then successfully defended the total, securing a 17-run victory, finally breaking their losing streak.
Among his notable innings of the season was his crucial knock of 54 against Multan Sultans. Van der Dussen’s consistent performances have made him the second-leading run-scorer of the season so far, amassing 364 runs from seven games at an impressive average of 72.80.
Following his stint with Lahore Qalandars, Rassie van der Dussen will now shift his focus to domestic cricket as he prepares to participate in Cricket South Africa’s domestic T20 tournament, the CSA T20 Challenge. Lahore Qalandars bid farewell to their talismanic batsman, thanking him for his invaluable contributions to the team and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
