- Amir, retired from international cricket in 2020, expresses excitement about playing in the UAE and contributing to the Vipers’ success.
In a significant development ahead of the upcoming IL2T0 2024, the Desert Vipers have added another Pakistani cricketing maestro to their squad, welcoming the seasoned fast bowler Mohammad Amir. The announcement marks Amir as the fourth Pakistani player to join the Vipers, following the footsteps of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Azam Khan, making the team a formidable force in the tournament.
The Desert Vipers, distinctively, are the only ILT20 side not co-owned by any IPL owner, adding an independent and unique flavor to the league. Expressing their excitement on Twitter, the Vipers wrote, “Mohammad Amir – when he plays, the world’s a mere stage. He will don the red and make the batters dread. Be watchful.” The poetic introduction reflects the anticipation surrounding Amir’s inclusion in the squad, highlighting his prowess as a game-changer.
Amir, who retired from Test cricket in 2019 and from international cricket in December 2020 due to issues with the PCB management, has since been a globetrotter in various T20 leagues. Recently featuring for the New York Strikers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Amir showcased his skills by claiming five wickets from eight games.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the Desert Vipers, Amir stated,
“I always enjoy playing in the UAE because the cricket fans always support Pakistan players and cheer us on. I know the local conditions as I have played a lot of cricket there, so that will be an advantage for me. I cannot wait to come to Dubai, and meet the team and all the amazing coaching staff, including Carl Crowe, who I worked with in the T10 tournament last month.”

With Amir’s wealth of experience and talent, the Desert Vipers aim to ascend to new heights in the forthcoming season, creating a buzz of excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the IL2T0 2024 kick-off on January 19th.
