Former Pakistani player Shahid Afridi, who has been gaining experience as a mentor or coach in several cricketing tournaments lately, is willing to feature as a player in the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2023).
When asked about his choice of team to participate in, Afridi said he would go with the one who would make an offer. Everyone’s favourite Boom Boom, who could not continue PSL 7 stint for longer with Quetta Gladiators due to a back injury, says,
“I have no idea where I will go. If a franchise offers, I will surely go along. I will work as it’s about Pakistan,”
Afridi has represented four out of six HBL PSL franchises, including Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, and Quetta Gladiators. However, he is yet to don the jerseys of Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United.
When asked about his favourite PSL franchise to play with, the flamboyant all-rounder answered that he enjoyed time with Zalmi and mentioned Sultans as the next best, with whom he had an entertaining journey. Notably, he did not mention his time with Kings or Gladiators.
“I had a really great time with Peshwar Zalmi. We had plans to give an opportunity to young talent, especially from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Secondly, I had fun during my stint with Multan Sultans. A professional team with good owners.”
It must be noted that the PSL 8 draft is likely to take place on 18th November, with title-defenders Qalandars having the first pick. Many international players, counting above 300, have registered themselves for the draft, enthusiastically waiting to be part of the marquee league. It is yet to see which of them would make it into the finalized squads. To see the pick order, click here.
