The inaugural edition of the Pakistan Junior League (PJL 1) is reviving just around the corner, but it has dealt with blows days before its beginning. Multiple foreign cricketers have withdrawn themselves for specific reasons and will no more be part of the U-19 T20 League’s maiden edition.
All six squads were finalized in PJL 1 draft, which took place on 8th September. No one expected the inclusion of foreign cricketers in the tournament, as it was a surprise move by the board to create hype, making the league a world-class one.
Hyderabad Hunters’ player, Ibrahim Masood from Afghanistan, is replaced by Sri Lankan player Lahiru Dawatage. Lahiru was picked by the Hunters in the Premier Category in PJL 1 draft but has sidelined himself for an unspecified reason.
Moreover, English cricketer Rehan Ahmed has pulled himself out of the league for his commitments with England Lions. The spinner grabbed a deal with Bahawalpur Royals and has now been replaced by South Africa’s seamer, Johan Mahane. Mahane, who plays for North West, has been included in the X-factor category.
Also, Gwadar Sharks’ skipper Mohammad Ismail has been replaced by Shamyl Hussain. Ismail will now act as a deputy to Shamyl, a left-handed batter.
It must be noted that PJL 1 is scheduled to be played from October 1st to 16th at Lahore’s Gadaffi Stadium. The six participating teams are Gujranwala Giants, Mardan Warriors, Bahawalpur Royals, Hyderabad Hunters, Gwadar Sharks, and Rawalpindi Raiders.
