Following the eleventh-hour Pakistan tour cancellation by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) citing security reasons, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) too abandoned the Pakistan tour mentioning COVID bubble fatigue. The mishaps happened before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), disappointed with the united ‘Western Bloc’, asked for contingency plans after the significant loss.
International cricket was returning in a full swing to Pakistan, but the setbacks by NZC and ECB, respectively, shattered millions of hopes and work put into. The revival of international cricket in a full fledge manner is once again on the cards with big teams making tours.
According to Future Tour Programs (FTP), Pakistan was due to host England for a five-match T20I series in October 2022. But with the compensation due for the cancelled tour in 2021, the five-match series had been converted to seven-match series.
According to the contingency plans in the event of England cancelling the Pakistan tour in 2021, they are also due to play three Tests in Pakistan after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. The tests will mark the completion of the multi-format England tour of Pakistan 2022.
Moreover, since Pakistan toured England during the peak of COVID days in 2020, the ECB, mutually with PCB, settled for seven T20Is as a gesture of payback. This is the reason why Pak vs Eng T20I series 2022 will witness seven quality matches in Pakistan.
Notably, England Cricket Team is voyaging Pakistan for the first time in 17 years since they last visited back in 2005. The first four T20Is will be played at National Stadium Karachi, whereas the remaining three will be played at Lahore’s Gadaffi Stadium.
