Big blow to Pakistan women's cricket team

Out of all the potential players of the Pakistan women’s cricket team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had finalized a 15-player squad for the Women’s Asia Cup on 7th September. However, after bowling all-rounder Fatima Sana has been ruled out, the women in green are left with 14 players in the main squad.

Alongside naming a squad, the board also announced four reserved players. Nevertheless, it now looks for a better alternative for Fatima, as the youngster has proved her skills excellently. On behalf of her recent performances, she was also picked for the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).

The reason for her expelling from the Asia Cup 2022 squad is the injury she suffered during WCPL, which took place in early September. According to the statements released by the board, she has sustained an ankle twist and has been advised to rest for at least four weeks.

Pakistan’s Fatima was picked by Barbados Royals in the first edition of Women’s CPL, where she picked three wickets in two games. Before that, she also took part in West Indies’ 6IXTY tournament, grasping two wickets in five matches.

Excluding Fatima, the rest of the squad is as below:

Pakistan squad for Women’s Asia Cup 2022: Bismah Maroof (capt), Aiman Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Ayesha Naseem, Diana Baig, Kainat Imtiaz, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Tuba Hasan
Reserve players: Nashra Sandhu, Natalia Pervaiz, Umme Hani, Waheeda Akhtar

It must be noted that Women’s Asia Cup 2022 will feature defending champions Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, UAE, Thailand, and UAE. It will be played in Bangladesh from October 1st to 16th.
