Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai represented Pakistan during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Nobel prize winner of Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai, addressed the crowd by giving a speech at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Friday 29th July at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, England.
She talked about the importance of girls education in Pakistan in her speech and presented it along with a documentary film. Also, talking about promoting sports for women, she wished luck to all the playing participants for the event saying:
“Tonight teams from 72 countries and territories join the people of Birmingham to celebrate friendship across borders.
“They represent millions of girls and boys and our shared goal, where every child can go to school, where women can fully participate in society and where families can live in peace and dignity.
“Remember every child deserves her chance to fulfil her potential and pursue her wildest dreams.”
Prince Charles also attended the opening ceremony of CWG in Birmingham in place of Queen Elizabeth. He read out the message of the Queen declaring the game event open.
The event is scheduled from July 28 to August 08 with 72 countries participating in it. 68 athletes will be representing Pakistan in 14 different games. A total of 27 women athletes are included out of which 15 are from the women’s cricket squad.
Malala’s address was shared by Birmingham 2022 on their official Twitter page terming it as a “very special and poignant address.”
