The medical team of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared KL Rahul to feature in the encounters, and the board has made full use of the opportunity. The batter is all set to lead team India in the upcoming Zimbabwe ODI series. He was believed to have contracted the virus a week before the team’s departure to the West Indies in mid-July.
The right-handed batsman has not only got a green signal from the board to participate in the ODI series starting from the 18th of August but will also take charge of the men. It must be noted the batter Shikhar Dhawan was initially named the captain but will now act as a deputy to Rahul.
Dhawan, who captained India against the West Indies ODIs last month, generating 3-0 victorious results, was consequently named to lead the men in blue in the Zimbabwe ODI series. It is pertinent to mention here that the senior players, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, have been rested.
Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Deepak Chahar are the others who have returned to the ODI squad after recovering from injuries. Rahul Tripathi is the other new face named in the squad.
Rahul last played for India in February against the West Indies after leading the team in South Africa in the second Test match and then the entire ODI leg.
