In a video shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), skipper Babar Azam has shared his plans about the team combination he wants to take in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The marquee event is scheduled to take place in Australia this month, and the men in green will kickstart their campaign against arch-rivals India. But before that, they are scheduled to tackle Bangladesh and New Zealand in the tri-nation series 2022, starting from October 7th.
Pakistan’s World-Cup-bound squad will feature in the tri-nation series, and Azam is planning to try the same combination in the three-team series he would implement for the T20 World Cup. While talking in a video, he mentioned that Pakistan already have tried their bench strength, and it is now time to let the leading players be in action. The purpose is to prepare the frontline players for the all-important event, and the tri-series will act as a practice panel for them.
The 27-year-old furthermore quoted that no team is to be taken lightly in the twenty-twenty format. He has revealed that they will follow distinct approaches versus different teams. His statements read,
“We tested our bench and experimented with distinct combinations against England. But now, we ought to be clear and assemble a final combination for T20 World Cup. We will go with the same combination in tri-series,”
“No team is easy in T20 format. Blackcaps are not easy to play in their home conditions. Tri-nation series is a fast format. You have to play versus two unlike teams with diverse approaches and plans,”
As per Babar‘s observations, playing conditions in New Zealand and Australia are pretty similar. Hence, the tri-nation series will be a good practising forum for them to test on bouncy pitches in the cold weather.
“Conditions in New Zealand are comparable to Australia. Temperature is cold, and pitches are bouncy, the exact you get in Australia. This series is a great chance for us to train for T20 World Cup,”
