Sourav Ganguly makes bold claim on Asia Cup 2022 hosting

The President of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly, has made a bold comment regarding the Asia Cup 2022 hosting. He has assured that Sri Lanka will no more be hosting the event amidst the financial and political crisis.

Ganguly says that United Arab Emirates (UAE) will embrace the event, with SLC being the original host. Notably, Sri Lanka’s condition has not been favouring them, with regular protests taking place and not pleasing the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to host the event there.

ACC, willing to take zero risk for multiple teams, is not pleased with the security arrangement in the island nation despite the fact that Sri Lanka has successfully hosted Australia Cricket Team for a full tour. Also, Pakistan Cricket Team is currently in the country for two-match test series with no security complaints in regard.

Apart from concerning the poor circumstances in Sri Lanka, Ganguly has considered weather conditions in Asian countries. As a result, he thinks rain will not affect UAE ‘only’, which can be the best venue for Asia Cup 2022 hosting.

“Asia Cup will be in UAE, as it is the only place where there won’t be rains,”

Moreover, the reports state that SLC has denied ACC to host the event, which will take place in T20 format this year. The last edition took place in 2018 when Rohit Sharma and co lifted the trophy. Notably, Asia Cup 2022 is set to be played from 27th August to 11th September.
