Sarfaraz Ahmed’s comeback impresses Pakistan captain Babar Azam

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has praised the performances of Sarfaraz Ahmed during the Test series against New Zealand. Sarfaraz, who had not played for Pakistan in a Test match since January 2019, scored 86 in the first innings of the first Test and 53 in the second innings. In the second Test, he made 78 runs before being dismissed following a controversial decision. However, his best knock came in the second innings of the final Test, where he scored 118 runs in 176 balls – his first century since 2014.

Despite Sarfaraz’s efforts, Pakistan fell just 15 runs short of their 319-run target. Babar lauded the wicketkeeper-batter’s performance after the conclusion of the Test series. “Sarfaraz Ahmed’s comeback was brilliant. Whenever he got a chance, he proved it,” Babar said in a press conference. “Saifi [Sarfaraz] bhai did not let the fire die within him in four years. His work ethic was always there and he continued to wait for his turn. We could have also won briefly, and it was because of his confidence and belief,” he added.

It appeared for a brief while that Pakistan would easily win the game after Sarfaraz reached his century. However, Michael Bracewell dismissed Sarfaraz in the closing stages of the match, and Pakistan had to settle for a draw in the dimming light.

Despite the result, Sarfaraz’s performances were a highlight of the series. His 86 in the first innings of the first Test set the tone for his strong showing throughout the series. In the second Test, his 78 runs were an important contribution to the team’s effort. And his century in the final Test was a testament to his perseverance and determination.

Babar’s praise of Sarfaraz is well-deserved. The former captain’s comeback to the national team was impressive, and he made the most of his opportunities. His work ethic and commitment to improving his game paid off, as he delivered strong performances throughout the series.

Overall, the Test series between Pakistan and New Zealand was a closely contested affair. While Pakistan may have fallen just short of victory in the final match, Sarfaraz’s efforts were a major factor in the team’s strong showing. His performances will be remembered as a highlight of the series, and he will no doubt continue to be an important player for Pakistan in the future.
