Moeen Ali might not join IPL on time

  • Moeen Ali’s arrival for IPL is delayed due to a clearance issue
  • The CEO is hopeful that he’ll get the papers by Monday
  • Gujrat Titans Abdul Naim is also waiting for the clearance of his documents

The Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) English all-rounder might not make it on time to the mega event of the Indian Premier League (IPL)  due to visa issues. The Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom is yet to grant the players clearance to fly to India.

Moeen Ali was one of the retentions of the Dhoni-led team as was announced when the list of retentions was released.  It is now his fourth time being retained by the CSK franchise and this time for INR 8 crore. As far as the delay in arrival is concerned, Kasi Viswanathan, the franchise CEO is hopeful that the all-rounder will be cleared since he has been in India quite a few times now. Once cleared, Moeen Ali will travel to Surat, India, where the team camp has been set up.

“He had applied for his visa on February 28. It has been more than 20 days since the application was submitted. He has been a frequent traveller to India and yet he has not got the travel papers. We are hoping he will join the team soon. He has told us that he will take the very next flight after getting the papers,” said Viswanathan. He also informed that the BCCI has now been involved as well and he will hopefully get the papers by Monday.

But looks like Ali is not the only one facing a visa issue. Abdul Naim, one of the Gujrat Titans coaching staff is also in line to get clearance of his documents in the UK. Naim was previously involved with the Sunrisers Hyderabad and was roped in by the Titans for this version of the league. The Gujrat family is hopeful that he will get clearance on time.

The 2022 edition of the marquee event IPL is all set to stage from 26th March with defending champions CSK taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
