178/4(19.5ov)

Melbourne Renegades beat Adelaide Strikers by 6 wickets

Right then, that caps off a thrilling day in the Big Bash League office. On Saturday, 09th January 2021, Perth Scorchers take on the Sydney Thunder. That game happens at the Perth Stadium and starts at 4.15 PM Local (8.15 AM GMT). We hope to have your company then, until then, take care and stay safe.
No prizes for guessing as to who is the 'Man of the Match'. It is Mr. President, Mohammad Nabi, for his valiant knock which saw his side coast through.
Earlier in the evening after opting to bat, Adelaide Strikers got off to a great start with Philip Salt scoring a solid 59 and Carey scoring a fiery 42. It looked like the Strikers were well on course for a total in excess of 190 but they lost their way in the middle. They were restricted to 177, 15-20 runs short of what they should have got. Those runs which they failed to get proved to be the difference between winning and losing tonight. Jack Prestwidge was outstanding with the ball for Renegades, finishing with 2/20 from his 3.
A valiant effort from the Strikers bowlers but it was just not good enough this evening. They were taken aback by Mohammad Nabi and could not come up with answers for it. Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers, 2/24 from his 4. Agar bowled well for his solitary wicket. Siddle's penultimate over proved to be too expensive, which did not just spoil his figures, but also killed the game for his side. Briggs had a tough evening as he was expensive for his solitary wicket. Strikers were not at their best with the ball, nor were they at their best in the field, and when that happens, one usually ends on the wrong side of the results.
Chasing 178, the Renegades got off to a sedate start. The openers though could not make their start count. Mohammad Nabi was the glue that kept the chase alive with Harper and Prestwidge failing to capitalize on their starts. The young Fraser-McGurk showed great maturity and played a perfect second fiddle to Nabi. The President initially struggled but showed his class and experience to play an awesome knock of 71, getting his highest score in the Big Bash.
It's over! It is finally over! The pain, the agony, the disappointment has finally come to an end. The Melbourne Renegades have ended their 7-game losing streak and finally get on the winning side. Take a bow, Mohammad Nabi! The President has done it! Credit to Fraser-McGurk for showing maturity, above his years!

THAT WILL DO! Full toss down the leg side, Fraser-McGurk tickles it down to the right of fine leg and takes a single. MELBOURNE RENEGADES WIN WITH 6 WICKETS TO SPARE!

Very full and on the boots, this time to Jake. He looks to dig it out but misses. It comes off his boots. This time though, Carey is unable to stop that completely with his dive. It goes behind him and a couple off leg byes result this time.

Alex does brilliantly there. Not a run out but still saves it from going into the boundary there. Full and on the boots, Mohammad misses his flick. It comes off his boots and goes down the leg side, Carey dives to his left and keeps it out well. A leg bye though. In fact Carey threw the ball to the bowler's end, looking to effect a run-out but misses to hit the stumps there.

Bouncer, Mohammad has a fierce swing at that but misses out to connect. Geez.. that is a good ball from Wes Agar there.

A couple to finish. 5 runs required from the last over now. Short and on the off pole, Mohammad lifts it over the bowler's head. Long off runs to his right and collects that but cannot stop a couple from being stolen.

SIX! Squirts this one out for a maximum. Very full and outside off, Nabi clears his front foot and squirts it out over extra cover.

FOUR! Nabi moves to 63 with that. Full and on off, Mohammad Nabi gives himself some room, clears his front leg and lofts that wide of long on for a boundary.

Good lengths from Siddle. Yorker, on middle and leg, Mohammad is just about able to jam it out.

Fullish and outside off, Jake gets across and goes for the scoop. He just about clears short fine leg. Harry gives chase and slides but fumbles there. Ends up conceding three runs. Peter is not happy. He thinks Conway should have proactively gone for the catch.

Very full and on middle and leg, Nabi bunts it down to long on. Takes a single and looks for the second but some good fielding prevents that.
