That's the coverage from this game! The next match sees Sydney Thunder go head-to-head against Brisbane Heat on December 6 at 7.15 pm local (8.15 am GMT). But the build-up will begin much in advance. Do join us for that. Till then, cheers!
Josh Philippe wins the Man of the Match award for his incredible hitting of the ball. He is in for a chat, he says that it was a great performance from the boys. Mentions that they started off really well and the bowlers did the job. Says that Steve O'Keefe was brilliant with the ball. Tells that everyone chipped in and almost everyone got a wicket to their name. Informs that SCG is their home ground and they do play here a lot and are used to the conditions.
The bowlers ran riot in this innings. It was Steve O’Keefe who gave them a solid start by picking up two wickets in the first over itself. He went onto pick up 4 wickets by the end of the game. Soon Sean Abbott made his presence felt, as he bagged three wickets. Only Chris Jordan remained wicketless but he bowled good lines and lengths to keep things tight. Hayden Kerr bowled a single over and picked up two wickets off his last two balls. But the skipper, Moises Henriques did not give him another go and he could not get to his hat-trick ball. Wonder if Moises Henriques knew about this. In the end, Tom Curran picked up a wicket to bowl out Melbourne Stars but all-in-all a complete team performance by Sydney Sixers.
When it is going wrong, it goes horribly wrong. The Sixers did not even give the opposition a glimpse to get back in the game. The Stars lost two wickets in the first over itself not the start they had envisioned for themselves. Glenn Maxwell got to the crease pretty early than expected. He too slipped out soon. It was all going downhill for them since then. No pair could stick around for long in the middle and they fell like a pack of cards.
The defending champions have made a statement in the first game itself. They went gun blazing with the bat earlier and their bowlers bowled with fire and they have started this campaign on a winning note. This is the biggest defeat in the history of BBL in terms of the score margin which is by 152 runs. The earlier record was of 145 runs by Melbourne Renegades. Sixers only had been their opponent then, making 205 and bowling out Renegades for 60 in Hobart, December 2020.

OUT! CAUGHT! That's it! Slower ball, outside off. Brody Couch goes for a big shot but could only slice this straight up in the air towards the point region. Dan Christian calls for it and takes the catch. The defending champions have begun their title defence with a win. SYDNEY SIXERS WIN BY 152 RUNS!

FOUR! STREAKY! Full and outside off. Syed Faridoun looks to push but gets an outside edge. The ball races away to the third man fence.
Bash Boost – Well, without any doubt the Sydney Sixers have earned their Bash Boost point, as they have restricted the Stars to much lower than the required 93 runs in 10 overs. A great effort by the Sixers bowlers.
