Right then, that is it from this one-sided affair where Northern Superchargers Women brushed aside the Birmingham Phoenix Women like it was nothing. However, the action does not stop here as the same two teams will go up against each other in the Men's competition. That game will begin in a short while, but you can just switch tabs to enjoy all the build-up to the match. Cheers!
Alice Davidson-Richards is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her crucial knock of 49 runs off 42 balls. She acknowledges the challenging batting conditions, noting it was a low-scoring game. She expresses satisfaction in securing the win, describing her strategy as working to build the innings, finding gaps for boundaries, and anticipating where the bowlers might err. Davidson-Richards emphasizes the importance of perseverance and adapting to difficult pitch conditions.
Presentation Time...
Earlier in the game, Northern Superchargers Women huffed and puffed their way to a fighting total due to a couple of gritty knocks from Annabel Sutherland and Alice Davidson-Richards who remained unbeaten on 49. Ellyse Perry and Emily Arlott were the pick of the bowlers for Birmingham Phoenix Women getting a couple of wickets each while Charis Pavely got one and everyone was fairly economical as well. While chasing, well it was never really a chase, it was a sorry-looking scorecard for the Phoenix Women as they were bundled out for just 54 runs.
Northern Superchargers Women, on the other hand, will be extremely pleased with their bowling effort. They knew that they are not defending a big total, but exploited the slow conditions well too. Kate Cross and Grace Ballinger set the tone with a couple of early wickets and then it was the turn of the spinners, pun intended. Linsey Smith continued her incredible form, giving nothing away and picking up the big wicket of Ellyse Perry while Georgia Wareham sent back the dangerous Richa Ghosh. Annabel Sutherland was exceptional bowling 11 dots in her three sets and getting a wicket as well. Smith added two more to her tally at the death while Wareham wrapped things up finishing with a three-wicket haul as well.
Birmingham Phoenix Women struggled right from the start on a wicket that was not easy to bat on. Sophie Devine did start the chase with a boundary on the first ball, but it all went downhill after that. Sterre Kalis, Ellyse Perry, or Amy Jones, none of them could really make an impact and the intent was also a bit questionable as there was not much of a rotation of strikes. They registered the lowest Powerplay score this season which was enough to indicate that the momentum was on the other side. Richa Ghosh also came out with a lot of expectations but she too went back for a duck leaving the Kiwi a hell of a lot to do here. Devine did try her best and played a few lusty blows along with Seren Smale, but that was never going to be enough with the asking rate creeping up with every ball. They have taken a big hit on their NRR as well and need to come up with a better performances in the upcoming games.
Now, that's what you call a domination victory! Northern Superchargers Women struggled a bit with the bat, but once they got the total over 100, we knew that it would not be an easy chase and that is exactly how it turned out to be. The Superchargers' bowlers were absolutely brilliant, especially the spinners and they have thrashed the Birmingham Phoenix Women by a huge margin of 61 runs.
