Right then, Sune Luus, the victorious skipper collects the Tri-Series trophy and celebrates with her team. This ends our coverage for this series and both teams will now head on to play a couple of warm-up matches before the ICC Women's T20 World 2023 that will begin on the 10th of February with hosts South Africa Women taking on Sri Lanka Women in the opening fixture. Till then, take care and goodbye!
The South Africa Women's captain, Sune Luus says that she is super proud of the girls and it was just the momentum they needed heading into the World Cup. Adds that it was out and out a spinning wicket but all bowlers bowled well and applauds the efforts of Chloe Tryon. Mentions that she is happy overall and their fielding coach will be happy as well and they try to improve every day.
Deepti Sharma is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES. She says that she bowled according to the situation and went with a set plan in the tournament. Adds that the wicket was turning and assisting the spinners. Closes by saying that she is looking forward to the mega event.
Chloe Tryon is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her superb all-round match-winning performance. Tryon says that it was a good game and the bowlers did really well up front and is happy to have contributed with the bat as well. Adds that they did well as a team and will take this confidence heading into the World Cup.
The Indian skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur says that her body is fine and it shall get better in the next 2-3 days. Adds that they have a lot of positives before the World Cup. She then lauds the bowlers who did a good job throughout the series. Closes by saying that she is looking forward to the World Cup.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and opted to bat first on a difficult wicket. The Indian openers failed to make an impression as Nonkululeko Mlaba bowled a superb spell upfront for South Africa Women. She was well supported by Shabnim Ismail at the other end and it was then a steady stand between Harmanpreet Kaur and Harleen Deol. Kaur fell looking to up the ante but Deol carried on and received some support from Deepti Sharma. The pair of them managed to take India to a score of 109 runs. The runs on the board weren't much for South Africa Women to chase down but India Women had quality spinners in their ranks. India did have the upper hand for most of the chase before a special knock from Chloe Tryon (57* off just 32 balls) turned the game on its head and the hosts ended up winning the Tri-Series.
India Women will be a bit disappointed with their effort with both the bat and in the field as well. Having put up an under-par total on the board, it was the spin trio of Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Sneh Rana who had the opposition in early trouble. The decision to bowl most of their overs upfront came back to haunt India as the pacers were taken to the cleaners and Devika Vaidya, the other spinner could bolw just the solo over for 12 runs. The regular too endured a bit of stick toward the end but it was really their batters and the pacers who let the final slip out of their grasp.
South Africa Women were always behind in the run chase as their openers were rattled early by the Indian spinners. Being 21/3 and not a single batter having gone into double-figures, it was the gritty stand between captain and vice-captain, Sune Luus and Chloe Tryon worth 26 runs that provided a bit of impetus. It wasn't a big stand by any means but it was a start and then another small stand brewed between Tryon and Annerie Dercksen. But they were once again reeling at 66/5 when Nadine de Klerk came out to support Tryon. The pair put on an unbeaten stand of 47 runs with Tryon notching up her maiden T20I fifty as well and sealing the win for the hosts.
What a dramatic finish to the game and the crowd inside the stadium goes wild. A cracker-jack of a final but it is Chloe Tryon and South Africa Women who have avenged their loss from the group stages to win the Tri-Series in fine fashion.
