Right then, that's all from this first ODI. It is Bangladesh Women who have caused an upset and have taken a lead in this three-match ODI series. The hosts would want to wrap up the series with a win in the second ODI. On the other hand, India Women will look to put this performance behind them and force a series decider. The second ODI of this three-match ODI series will take place at the same venue on Wednesday, the 19th of July. The first ball will be bowled at 9.00 am IST (3.30 am GMT). As always, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Nigar Sultana, the skipper of Bangladesh Women, says that they were 30-40 runs short but the lower order scored some crucial runs for the side. Mentions that she thought that they would not get past 120 runs. Adds that they are also struggling with the bat as well. Adds that she is really happy with the win and that everybody chipped in and that's what saw the side through.
Marufa Akter is the Player of the Match for her match-winning spell of 4 for 29 from her 7 overs.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the skipper of India Women, says no one took the responsibility to bat deep and let the team down plus in the bowling also the side gave 20 runs extra. Adds that the team is not batting up to the mark and that has cost the side again. Also adds that the side needs to learn from this performance and start rotating the strike more often.
Time for the presentations...
Earlier in the game, it was Harmanpreet Kaur who called it right and inserted Bangladesh Women into bat. Indian bowlers did not let go of the opportunity of bowling in favourable conditions. They were on the money right from the start and tested Bangladesh with the new ball. After Amanjot Kaur worked her magic with the new ball, the spinners kept things quiet during the middle overs. Other than Fargana Hoque and Nigar Sultana, no other batter was able to make a mark with the bat. As a result, Bangladesh Women could only muster 152 runs on the board. On her ODI debut, Amanjot Kaur starred with the ball for India Women with a four-wicket haul.
As far as India Women are concerned, it was a game of two halves for them. In the first half, it was a dominant bowling effort from them but they were let down big time by their batters. While chasing a modest total, India Women were rocked early as they lost Smriti Mandhana in the third over. Priya Punia and Yastika Bhatia then got together and got India Women off to a decent start. However, once this partnership was broken, it all went downhill for the visitors. Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma got together and started a repair job but Amanjot Kaur's dismissal was the turning point in the game for India Women. Towards the end, Devika Vaidya played a lone hand but eventually ran out of partners.
Remarkable scenes at the Shere Bangla National Stadium Mirpur! We have witnessed history here as Bangladesh Women have defeated India Women for the very first time in ODIs! A spirited bowling performance has helped them clinch a 40-run victory and by doing so, have taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. With not a big total to defend, early breakthroughs were the need of the hour for Bangladesh Women. Things did go according to plan as Marufa Akter removed Smriti Mandhana in her second over. She struck once again to remove the other Indian opener. Rabeya Khan then joined in on the act and piled more misery on India during the middle overs. After a brief period of resistance by the Indian batters, Marufa Akter was brought back on and she went bang, bang to swing the game in her side's favour once again. The remaining formalities were completed by Rabeya Khan and Sultana Khatun.

OUT! RUN OUT! It's a wrap and a historic win for Bangladesh Women as they have defeated India Women by 39 runs. Short of a length on leg, Devika Vaidya glances it to short fine leg and runs for it but Sultana Khatun was quick to it and she hits the bull's eye with Bareddy Anusha short of her crease. The T.V. replays confirm this and the last wicket falls too as India Women gets defeated.
