Phew! Well, that's all from this long tour. The Indian team will return home now and host England for a long tour. 4 Tests, 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. The Test series is set to begin on the 5th of February 2021. Australia, on the other hand, will travel to New Zealand for a 5-match T20I series which starts from 22nd February 2021. Join us for all those games. For now, we bid you goodbye! Cheers and take care!
That's quite a summary of the series! Let' talk about the entire tour too. Australia won the ODI series 2-1. India returned the favour by pocketing the T20I leg 2-1 and now the Test series has been pocketed by the Indians.
And then came this game! Key players like Ashwin, Bumrah, Jadeja and Vihari were out of this game. There were bio-bubble saga. The crowd issues in Sydney as well but Rahane's men took them all on the chin. The bowling attack looked inexperienced but boy what a performance from them throughout this game. They punched above their weight and kept themselves in the game. And then the hero with the bat, Rishabh Pant turned things around like a rockstar for the Indians.
That didn't happen though. Ajinkya Rahane led the unit in absence of Kohli and what followed was some unimaginable performances from the Indian team. Rahane led the team to a victory in the 2nd Test at the MCG! Then came SCG! And then came the fighting spirit of the Indian team. Injured players battled the entire day for them and made sure the 2nd Test was drawn. A number of heroes emerged for the visitors in that game. Heroes who didn't play the final Test because of the injuries.
Let's rewind the Test series! Virat Kohli-led Indian side got crushed at Adelaide in the first Test. Yes, crushed! 36 all out. And once that happened, everyone predicted that it is going to be a whitewash, with Virat Kohli gone home to be with his pregnant wife. India also missed the services of Shami for the remainder of the series.
Time for the victorious Indian skipper to have a word. Rahane says that the win means a lot to them. Is proud that the boys were brilliant after the Adelaide debacle. Tells they knew Australia at home is a very dangerous team. He mentions that the way Pujara batted and handled the pressure was superb. In the end, Rishabh and Sundar did brilliant work. Mentions that they went with 5 bowlers and Sundar gave them the balance. Tell that Siraj and Saini did good work to handle the pressure. He also says that they just wanted to play good cricket and express themselves. The Melbourne win was the key moment for them. Thanks the fans who came to support them. The Indian skipper ends by gifiting a signed jersey by all the Indians players to Nathan Lyon for playing 100 Tests. A terrific gesture from the Indian skipper and the entire team.
Tim Paine, the Aussie skipper to talk now. He says that they were here to win the game and the series but they have been outplayed by the better side. Says India fully deserve the series win. Tells that they need to look back at a few things. Says that they wanted to set the total over 300 and push for the series win. Feels India turned up for the day, wore balls on the helmet, on the fingers and put their body on the line. Tells that their bowlers tried everything they had with them but they were outplayed by the Indians.
PAT CUMMINS WINS THE PLAYER OF THE SERIES AWARD! Tells that it was a good hard day of Test cricket. Praises Pant and the Indian batters and tells that they deserved to win. Says that he wanted the cracks to show a few more tricks than it did. Feels that they had the chance of winning the game in Sydney and here on the 5th day but they couldn't do so. Says that they didn't take enough wickets to win the match.
RISHABH PANT IS NAMED PLAYER OF THE MATCH FOR HIS SUPERB KNOCK! He starts by saying that this is one of the biggest days of his life. He credits the entire support staff. Tells that it has been a dream series for them. Adds that he has been practicing hard and it paid off here. Says that the management has always backed him and they keep telling him that he is a match-winner. Tells he always wanted to win the game for the team. On him playing patiently, Pant mentions that it was the 5th day's wicket and he needed to make sure his shot selection were correct.
Australia extended their lead with the openers giving a strong start. India, as they have been throughout the series, made another comeback with quick strikes. Smith's half-century and contributions from the lower order saw Australia give India 328. Siraj and Shardul put on an inspired bowling performance with the former picking up his maiden Test fifer. The final session of Day 4 was cut short due to rain as just 11 overs were bowled in the 2nd Indian innings. You already know what happened on Day 5. India created history!
Rohit Sharma was looking in a good nick before throwing his wicket away towards the end of Day 2. Day 3 saw India get pushed further back as they lost the 6th wicket for 156. Then came the stand that has defined the Indian contingent this tour. Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj put on a brave fight and went onto make their debut half ton in the process of their 123-run stand. And they reduced the lead quite spectacularly. Josh Hazlewood was the main man for Australia who got a fifer. Playing his 100th Test, Lyon had a tough day, getting just a wicket in the innings.
Earlier in the game, Australia won the toss and opted to bat on a friendly batting wicket. The Aussies posted 369 in the first innings with Labuschagne hitting a ton and skipper Paine getting to a half-century. At one point, the Aussies were in a position to post an even bigger total but that didn't happen. The inexperienced bowling unit of India did well to bounce back on Day 2. Debutant Sundar and Shardul got 3 wickets apiece.
What about Australia? Well, they threw everything they had with them to the Indians. Cummins gave it his all. Lyon, the man playing his 100th Test did everything he could do but things just didn't fall in place for them. They were made to toil hard in the field and eventually, they failed to get past the inspired Indian batters.
But Pant is Pant! He is a dasher, they say. But boy, in this innings, he showed why India should back him. If not as a keeper-batsman, then purely as a batsman. What a sensational knock. He controlled his emotions early on when Lyon tossed the ball outside off. He backed himself to go for the big shots as and when needed and turned things around superbly for India. What a champion knock from this champion player. He got lucky too but remember, luck favors the brave.
Right! Let's talk about Day 5, the historic day! India needed 324 to win. Australia needed 10 wickets. The notion was that India might not want to go for the win as a draw will mean they keep the trophy. And they lost Rohit early. Gill and Pujara combined for a brilliant partnership.Right! Let's talk about Day 5, the historic day! India needed 324 to win. Australia needed 10 wickets. The notion was that India might not want to go for the win as a draw will mean they keep the trophy. And they lost Rohit early. Gill and Pujara combined for a brilliant partnership. Gill played a gem of an innings but fell 9 short of what could've been his debut ton. He went. But what about Pujara. Well, he hung in. Got hit everywhere on the body. Looked in pain but grinded it out and took India close along with Pant. Australia looked clueless. They opted for the second new ball. Cummins removed Pujara. Australia got an opening. Well, they might have thought so.
Phew! What a game! What a turnaround! The Indian team and the big contingent is thanking the fans who came in numbers to support the Indians, away from home. Shubhman Gill with the tri-colour in his flag. The young brigade of the team. It is the same team that was crushed for 36 in the first Test and then this. Walking with pride, all around the ground. Sensational! It is back-to-back series victory for India in Australia.
GRIT! COURAGE! CONFIDENCE! PATIENCE! FIGHT! You show all this and you win! And India have done that. They have breached the Aussie fortress at the Gabba! The Indians from the pavilion race to the middle and it is celebration time in the Indian camp. Pant is getting tightest of hugs from the Indian support staff. What a moment! What a performance. Take a bow, India!

FOUR! Here's the winning runs! Here's the history! Here's Rishabh Pant! Josh wants to bowl it wide outside off. He ends up dishing a low full toss. Pant drills it through mid off. The fielder in the ring cannot stop and the ball races away to the fence. Take a bow, Rishabh Pant! What a game! INDIA WIN BY 3 WICKETS AND TAKE THE SERIES 2-1.
