That ends a longggggggggggggg Saturday, aye? And a day of specials. First, an Usman Khawaja special in the Ashes. Then a Daniel Sams' tuxedo in the first game. And later, a Ben McDermott cracker. Tiring but exciting to watch. Sunday, 9th January, 2022 sees just the one game, with Sydney Sixers looking to avenge their defeat against the Perth Scorchers. The game is at Coffs Harbour and the first ball will be bowled at 1:45 pm IST (0815 GMT). But our buildup will begin well in advance. So do tune in early. Besides, there is plenty of other action to catch too - like West Indies-Ireland, New Zealand-Bangladesh and the Ashes. So enjoy the cricket carnival but do remember to join here for the Big Bash action. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Right. So that ends a pretty one-sided game. Hurricanes gather 3 points from this contest but they stay where they were at the start of this game - in fourth place. The Heat though, thanks to the one point gained, go above the Renegades to fifth spot, due to a better net run rate.
BEN MCDERMOTT HAS BEEN NAMED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH.
Earlier in the evening, a Lachlan Pfeffer special staved off an otherwise embarrassing batting display by Brisbane. His 69 took the home side to a competitive 144, but it was not enough in the end. The bowling attack from the Hurricanes was very professional and totally deserve the 3 points.
This was a drubbing for the Heat but they will be happy that they managed to gain one point, having won the Bash Boost. Their bowlers started well but could not quite sustain the pressure. The early wicket did seem like things were difficult for the Men In Purple but not for too long. Patrick Dooley impressed everyone with his action first and then with his bowling. Nearly had McDermott twice in the game. Prestwidge picked up 2 wickets.
McDermott continued his rich vein of form and is giving a tough competition to two groups - The ones selecting the player of the tournament for this Big Bash (Mitchell Marsh being the other contender) and the ones who would be eyeing a group of 20 individuals to represent Australia for the 2022 T20 World Cup. BM began on a positive note, not allowing the bowlers to settle at all and then upped the ante gradually.
Yeah, for argument sake, there were a couple of moments - the very first ball that Ben faced, he miscued one of Dooley and was lucky not to be caught. Then just around the halfway mark, he gave a sitter off Dooley again, only to be let off. However, even if the second catch had been taken, hard to see Heat overcome the challenge, because of the platform set.
Comfortable win for the Hurricanes in the end. Never looked in doubt, to be honest, even though Caleb Jewell fell early. The 118-run stand between Ben McDermott and Peter Handscomb sealed the deal pretty comfortably.

Shorter in length, around middle. The ball just comes on a bit slower and that induces the false shot. Peter Handscomb looks to pull but get a top edge and the ball lands safely over square leg. They get a single.
