Right then, that's all from this game. The action in the 2023 Tamil Nadu League continues on Sunday 2nd of July with a doubleheader. The first game of the day will see Madurai lock horns with Kovai and that game will begin at 3.15 pm IST (9.45 am GMT). This game will be followed by Trichy taking on Chepauk and it will start at 7.15 pm IST (1.45 pm GMT). As always, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Vimal Khumar is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning knock.
Earlier in the game, after Nellai were asked to bat first, Arun Karthik got his side off to a swift start in the Powerplay. After the field restrictions were lifted, Nellai found it hard to score at a brisk pace. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were struggling at 109-5. Thanks to knocks by Sonu Yadav and NS Harish, Nellai were able to reach a competitive total. As far as Dindigul are concerned, Varun Chakaravarthy was their most economical bowler on the night with figures of 1 for 15 from his four overs. Subodh Bhati and Mathivannan M were a bit expensive but accounted for two wickets each.
On the other hand, Nellai began well with the ball, conceding only 37 runs in the Powerplay. However, they were unable to keep the pressure on as they did in the first six overs. They kept leaking boundaries which meant that the game was slipping away from them. M Poiyamozhi and Mohan Prasath got a wicket each but they didn't have enough runs to play with and faced defeat in the end.
A fine victory for Dindigul! They have confirmed their playoffs spots and are still in contention to finish on top of the table. In pursuit of 160 runs, Dindigul were off to a steady start courtesy of the two openers. Once the Powerplay was done. Vimal Khumar and Shivam Singh S, the openers stepped on the gas and started scoring at a fast rate. With a 117-run opening stand, Nellai found themselves in firm control of the game. Both of them registered fifties but got out in quick succession and they themselves got in a difficult situation but Adithya Ganesh and Baba Indrajith made sure that they get over the line with thre balls to spare
